Double Yang Mini Festival

Local alternative music promoter Chapter 24 is proud to present "DOUBLE YANG!", a mini festival showcasing some the UK's best alternative folk music and beyond. The festival takes place over one day in the intimate environment of The Venue, at Leckhampton's Wheatsheaf Inn, on Sunday September 9th.

Alasdair Roberts - Appearing at Double YangTaking inspiration from the Venues' long musical tradition and the several popular alternative folk events(the ever popular Green Man Festival in Wales is particularly inspiring) Double Yang brings together a consistently strong & interesting lineup to an authentic "folk club" atmosphere.

ALASDAIR ROBERTS is a highly-praised singer songwriter from Scotland, also known for his spellbinding versions of traditional scottish ballads. He has toured with Joanna Newsom and worked with Will "Bonnie Prince Billy" Oldham, and even recently appeared on the BBC documentary "Folk Britannica"; JAMES BLACKSHAW & WOODEN SPOON are considered to be two of the UK's leading lights in instrumental guitar music, taking influences from both folk blues and traditional musics of the far east; ROSE KEMP is the daughter of Steeleye Span's Maddy Prior & Rick Kemp , and her signing to record label One Little Indian (home of Bjork ) shows her willingness to push the music to unexplored territories.

There are also some other interesting diversions - Free Improvising duo ALEX WARD & CHRIS CUNDY are the horn section of Mercury Nominees The Guillemots, and Bristol-based indie pop genius S J ESAU is signed to seminal US alternative hip-hop label Anticon. The bill also has it's fair share of local up and coming artists based in Cheltenham - Lo-fi blueman MEN DIAMLER , acclaimed local songwriter EDD DONOVAN, Z+ and JM KADOS.

The day's proceeding shall be kicked off by local electronica shamens BRICKWERK,and there shall be GUEST DJs entertaining throughout the day. Tickets for the event are £10 in advance, and are available from Cheltenham Town Hall (01242 227979). The event starts at 12.30pm and runs throughout the day. A barbecue will be available in the garden early afternoon.
